Battleship Cove Unveils Special Poster Exhibit
Fall River: Battleship Cove has recently
unveiled "The Art of War: Powers of Persuasion," a stunning
new exhibit of authentic, framed posters from World War I and World
War II.
This collection, on loan from the Varnum
Armory in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, covers various areas of
interest, including: military recruitment and morale; civil defense;
industrial production; war bonds and loans; freedom and loyalty
campaigns; prices and rationing; transportation; health and safety;
food production; and women in military.
Colorful and engaging, these posters reflect
the political, social, and economic tenor of this bygone era. The
exhibit, which is sponsored by Citizens-Union Savings Bank, will
be on temporary display in Battleship Cove's Newberry Hall, and
will highlight three special themes. The first theme - Mobilizing
the Homefront - will be open to the viewing public until September.
Subsequent themes include: Demonizing the Enemy (mid-September)
and The Art of Recruitment (early December). Call 508-678-1100 for
details.
Battleship Cove serves as the Commonwealth's
official memorial for Massachusetts citizens of all military branches
who lost their lives in World War II, and the Korean, Vietnam and
Persian Gulf Wars. Most recently, this memorial mission was expanded
to include the Commonwealth's victims of the September 11, 2001,
terrorist attacks. Preserving five National Historic Landmark naval
vessels, Battleship Cove also delivers educational programs that
expose a national audience of 60,000 youths to a mission that promotes
duty, honor and country.
