Engineer Strafford Morss is a retired Navy commander holding a BS in Architectural
Sciences from Harvard University. For 13 years, Commander Morss served as project
engineer for Stone and Webster. A former Battleship Cove vice president, he has
served as a consulting engineer and/or preservation project manager for the museums
and departments responsible for the U.S.S. Texas, U.S.S. Alabama, U.S.S.
Salem, U.S.S. Olympia, U.S.S. Cassin Young, U.S.S. Torsk,
U.S.S. Taney, U.S.S. Kennedy, U.S.S. Lionfish, and U.S.S. Massachusetts,
and held the Preservation Chair for the Historic Naval Ships Association from
1990-2003. Commander Morss has received the Casper Knight Award from the Historic
Naval Ships Association, and has edited the Curator's Handbook for the Hawaiian
Maritime Center. Commander Morss is a member of the American Society of
Naval Engineers, the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, the Steel Structures
Painting Council, and the United States Naval Institute. He has authored numerous
articles for Warships International, Proceedings, Naval History,
and Preservation. |
