YEARS OF CAMPING: Battleship Cove pioneered the concept of organized youth
groups spending an evening aboard a naval vessel. It all began in 1972....Ctd.
As
the world's largest collection of historic naval ships
and home to five National Historic Landmarks, Battleship Cove is the guardian
of our nation's democratic heritage - a proud tradition in which you can share.
You don't need to be a veteran to join
Battleship Cove; you just need to care about them. Home to the National
PT Boat Museum, the National Destroyermen's
Museum, and exhibits honoring all branches of military service, Battleship
Cove is a national shrine to vets and their families. As an official
memorial, Battleship Cove symbolizes the contributions of all service personnel,
and we ask you to join our patriotic cause as a member so that our mission can
perpetually endure.
We hope our mission to promote
duty, honor, and country, inspires you to become a member of Battleship
Cove today. As a member, you will receive free admission for one year, our quarterly
news journal, and discounts at our gift
shop. You will also receive notices of special ceremonies and invitations
to events such as Victory at Sea, a 12-meter
yacht regatta and gala dinner. Most important, you will become involved in a vibrant
nonprofit organization whose preservation and program successes have universal
impact.
"There
was an esprit des corps among the men there that if anyone was ever in
trouble, everyone would do his best to help them out."
A
MAN OF METTLE & MEDAL: Medal of Honor
recipient Thomas Hudner knows what loyalty means. When enemy flak sent his wingman,
Jesse Brown, crashing into the snow-covered slopes of the Chosin Reservoir, Hudner
promptly crash-landed his F-4U Corsair in a heroic attempt to save him. As smoke
plumed from Brown's burning wreckage and nearby Communist troops threatened, Hudner
packed snow into the flames and struggled to extricate Brown from his plane. For
Fall River native Tom Hudner, leaving a shipmate behind was not an option.
At
Battleship Cove, we are dedicated to preserving the distinguished cultural legacy
of veterans like Tom Hudner and Jesse Brown, and we invite you to join as a member
of our team.
