Today, USS Lionfish survives as a memorial
for American submariners who died in service to their country in WWII and as a
magnificent educational artifact that helps younger generations understand how
the historical and technological achievements of the past are still relevant in
the 21st century. Each year, more than 60,000 young people climb on board
Lionfish to learn how submariners have grappled with the challenges of
World War II, the Cold War, and today. From the harrowing trials in the early
Pacific war to the evolution of Rickovers nuclear navy, USS Lionfish
gives visitors a firsthand appreciation of the many sacrifices of the submarine
force. |
