Did you know that President Kennedy watched the 1962 America's Cup Races from the deck of Destroyer Kennedy?

A 12-METER PRIMER: When the exorbitant expense of J-Boats drove them from competition as an America's Cup class after the Second World War, the Royal Yacht Squadron suggested contesting the cup in an International Rule 12-Meter. The British 12-Meter, a class that draws its title from the formula governing its design, first appeared in 1907 but didn't become popular in America until two decades later. The first 12-Meter defense of the Cup occurred in 1958 when Sceptre lost to Columbia, a yacht considered by many to be the most elegant example of the class.

A DATE OF INFAMY: Battleship Cove will commemorate the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by hosting a brief ceremony at 12:55 p.m. -- the exact hour of the Japanese strike. Located on the Battleship Massachusetts, the service will include wreath-casting rites prefaced by brief remarks from Battleship Cove's Executive Director. Subsequently, attendees will be invited to adjourn to the Pearl Harbor Room to share perspectives on Pearl Harbor and its timeless relevance.
