PETE'S SAKE: Peter O'Farrell's love affair with the USS
Massachusetts began at age seven; he visited her regularly and camped
on board her with his Scout troop. Later, when O'Farrell learned about her hull
troubles, he decided to enlist in our volunteer corps to help Big Mamie combat
the ruthless ravages of time. Much has changed since
O'Farrell embarked in 1995. He has helped to restore passageways, refurbish the
bakery, and this die-hard battleship enthusiast even spruced up a few areas on
(egad!) the Kennedy. But it wasn't until
May 12, 2002, that he and Curator Chris Nardi completed their magnum opus: the
restoration of the USS Massachusetts Admiral's Quarters. |
