When it comes to restoring DD-850, these destroyermen are a fanatical lot ... but then, what else would you expect from the sailors who have historical borne many of the Navy's most demanding assignments?

Led by Steve Whynot, Ed Zajkowski, and Rich Angelini (at left), the Tin Can Sailors and the Kennedy Restoration Committee (KRC) host regular field days on the "Joey P." If you are interested in Naval history, were an ex-destroyerman, or just want to help in the preservation effort aboard DD850, you can participate in this volunteer program.

You can eat, sleep, tell sea tales, and work aboard this Navy destroyer just as if she was in service. Why not do your Community and Eagle Scout projects aboard JPK? Want to make it a family weekend? Bring the wife, kids, cousins, friends, etc., as all are welcome. To get information about the Tin Can Sailor Field Days, please e-mail Steve Whynot, TCS Field Day Coordinator, or call Steve at 508-481-2359.

Angelini's years of dedicated service have earned him the coveted title of "Assistant Curator."
DASH to danger: Battleship Cove and Kennedy volunteers have restored DD-850's DASH (Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter). Click here to learn more about this spindly Cold War relic.

RICH ANGELINI: A resident of nearby Somerset, MA, Rich Angelini is one the most dedicated members of Battleship Cove's volunteer corps. The son of Michael Angelini, a former Kennedy crewmember, Angelini attended his first DD850 field day when he was just 10 years old. Since then, destroyers have become his passion (obsession…?), and he currently maintains more than 100 destroyer and light carrier websites.

Employed by Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) in Newport, RI, Rich earned his degree in electrical engineering from UMass Dartmouth. His hobbies include antique-radio collecting and muscle cars - he's the proud owner of a 1970 Dodge Challenger RT!

VISIT FOR FREE: Did you know that you can visit Battleship Cove for free all year for as little as $35? And that's just one of many perks enjoyed by Museum Members. Follow this link to learn more!
