thank
you, donors Early research &
development for this project began in 1999 with a grant from the Fall River Cultural
Council of the Massachusetts Cultural Council ($7,500), and from the Fall River
Womens Union ($2,500), the funds enabled initial research and presentation
of a small exhibit of womens uniforms that were displayed in 2000 in the
Memorial Hall onboard the Massachusetts. The uniforms displayed were loaned by
the Fall River Historical Society, the Naval War College, of Newport, RI, and
our own collection of womens uniforms donated by veterans. The display prompted
support for the large exhibit from the Federated Department Stores ($7,000), The
Yawkey Foundation ($10,000), and Perry A. Denham ($100). In 2006, the museum received
a $10,000 grant from Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities to further the
development of the exhibit plans and establish an advisory panel of experts to
guide the scholarly approach.
