About Dr. Walter Powell:

Dr. Walter L. Powell currently serves as a Rare Books and Manuscripts Associate for J. James Auctioneers & Appraisers in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and as a seasonal on-board guest lecturer for American Cruise Lines. He retired in the fall of 2017 as the 1st Executive Director of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants in Plymouth. Previously he worked in a variety of professional capacities, most notably for 17 years as Director of Planning and Historic Preservation for the Borough of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where, among many other projects, he directed the restoration of the Gettysburg Railroad Station (built 1858) and served as the historian for the National Park Service Project Team that directed the restoration of the David Wills House, where President Abraham Lincoln completed the Gettysburg Address.

     Dr. Powell has been a longtime member of the Titanic Historical Society and attended both the 75th and 100th anniversary conventions. He has lectured on the subject frequently and maintains a collection of Titanic memorabilia.
